History of Dixie Middle School

1901 -The Woodward School (75 West Tabernacle) was finished and opened its doors to serve students from 1st grade to 10th grade
1911 – Grades 9 & 10 were moved to the Dixie Stake Academy and the Woodward School continued to serve grades 1st through 8th.
1936 – Elementary students were moved to the new St. George Elementary School. 7th & 8th grade students remained at Woodward and were joined by 9th and 10th-grade students from the Dixie Academy Building to become Woodward Junior High School.
1963 – Grade 10 was moved to Dixie High School.
1976/1977 – The Junior High Students (Grades 7 through 9) moved from the Woodward School to the Dixie Junior High School (825 South 100 East). The Woodward School was then used for the overflow from West Elementary School.
1983 – 9th grade students were moved to Dixie High School and Dixie Junior High School changed its name to Dixie Middle School.
1984 – 6th grade students were moved to Dixie Middle School.
1985 – 6th grade students moved to the Woodward complex to create the Woodward Sixth Grade Center.
1987 – 9th grade students were brought back to Dixie Middle School from Dixie High School.
1995 – An addition was constructed onto the northeast corner of the building that contained three computer labs, and three classrooms.
2004 – 7th grade students were moved to the Tonaquint Sixth Grade Center creating the Tonaquint Intermediate School.
2014 – The new Dixie Middle School (929 South 100 East) was completed and the old school building was torn down to make room for the Dixie High School baseball field and parking lot for the new school.
